Refer to the following information for the next six questions.

For each graduated cylinder, estimate your reading to the first uncertain digit.

The labeled scale levels are 40, 45, and 50.

The labeled scale levels are 75 and 85.

The labeled scale levels are 50 and 55.

The labeled scale levels are 70 and 80.

The labeled scale levels are 6, 7, and 8.

The labeled scale levels are 20, 30 and 40.

Refer to the following information for the next three questions.

Density calculations
One frightful day little Jimmy Turner decided to throw his cell phone into the toilet after angrily hanging up on his dear old grandmother. The original volume of water in the toilet bowl read 6050 ml.  After little Jimmy Turner threw his phone into the toilet bowl the water level read 6100 ml. If the mass of the unfortunate cell phone was 100. grams then what is the density of little Jimmy Turner's now-soaked cell phone?

A food fight has broken out in the middle of the cafeteria and the big football players decided to take sides against their far-nerdier adversaries. As a bottle of ketchup was hurdling through the air directly toward the face of the undeserving nerd, the nerd wondered how large the mass of ketchup was coming toward his face. If the ketchup bottle had a volume of 500. ml and a density of 1.43 g/cm^3 what was the mass of the ketchup in the bottle?

As the history teacher droned on about the population in the highest points of the Himalayan mountains the now-tired student wondered to himself, "if the ink in my pen has a mass of 0.3 grams and a density of 0.15 g/cm^3 then what would be the volume of the ink in my pen?"

Refer to the following information for the next six questions.

Indirect measurement

How many strikes hit the paper (blue rectangle including all the circles)?

How many strikes only hit within a circle?

If the rectangle measures 25 cm by 20 cm, what total area is covered by the 24 yellow circles?

What is the area of one circle?

What is the radius of one circle?

If the correct radius is 2.15 cm, what is your experiment's percent error.

Refer to the following information for the next six questions.

Jason wants to determine the amount of rain fall that is delivered during a rain storm.  Jason waits for an approaching storm and then records the volume of water collected in a graduated cylinder every five minutes during the storm. Jason collected the following data:

Graph a scatter plot of the data Jason collected on a sheet of graph paper. Clearly label the axis and title your graph.

Is the storm a steady rain or does it surge?  Support your answer.

Why should we not use a line of best fit?  Support your answer.

Draw line segments connecting successive data points.

Input your answers (to two decimal places) with commas separating your values.

What should the unit of the slope be?

The slope represents the average volume of rain during the 5 minute period.  When was it raining the heaviest?  Support your answer based on the calculated slopes in your previous answer.

Describe the progress of the storm over the 45 minute period.

Refer to the following information for the next seven questions.

Rick watches a weather vane spinning in the wind. During the period that he makes his observations the wind’s strength seems constant and steady. Rick records the following data:

Graph the data Rick collected on a sheet of graph paper. Clearly label the axis and title the graph.

Is the wind steady?  Support your answer based on the data.

Why is a "line of best is fit" a good option for this data?  Support your answer.

Draw in the “line of best fit” and calculate its equation. State your answer with the correct numerical values for its slope and y-intercept as well as the correct variables for its x- and y-axes.

What are the units of the slope?

What does the slope mean?

Interpolate how much time is required for 50 spins using your equation from question #4.

What is different about the event that allows line of best fit for this scenario but not for the previous rainfall scenario?
